Akashic Records 101

The Akashic Records.

What the heck are they? How can we better understand their wisdom? How did I even hear about them and wander into them and become a channel for these messages?

Great questions. Here’s a few answers in this tiny 101 survey course that I wrote to help make the records feel more approachable, understandable, and accessible for us all.

Q: So, what exactly are the Akashic Records?

A. The easiest way that I can explain the Akashic Records is to invite you to think about them like a giant database filled with everything that’s ever happened and all that might be.

Kinda overwhelming, right? And yet thinking of them like an ethereal library or ethereal search engine with information on everything is the easiest way I have found to conceptualize the records.

Another way to conceptualize them is to think of them as a way to access the collective conscious and collective unconscious (i.e. the ginormous collective of experiences and information throughout the history of humanity).

This leads me to my next question—

Q: If the records contain such a large database of information, does that mean you can access all of it if you learn to work with the records?

A: In my experience, no. There are many things that are meant to be accessed and made available to us so we can better navigate our human journey and understand information from spirit’s perspective. However, I have found that not all information is meant to be accessed. Not all information is meant for us to know.

For example, if I’m going into somebody’s records per their request and consent, then I have permission to enter their records to access information for their highest good.

If I am trying to go into their records without their permission (something quite honestly I’ve never done or never been tempted to do because it just feels wrong to my heart) then my understanding is that the information isn’t accessible since it’s not mine to know. The records would consider this a violation (like trying to take a book from the restricted section of the library) and my understanding is that I would likely feel confused or like nothing was coming through because it wasn’t meant to come through to me.

And the same thing goes for some of the records that impact the collective. There are some things I’m meant to know as a channel for the records, and other things I don’t feel called to ask because I intuitively know it’s not mine to know.

Throughout the years, I’ve come to appreciate the mystery. I don’t need to know what I don’t need to know and I’m happy to bring in what I am supposed to know!

Q: How did I get started working with the Akashic Records in the first place.?

A: There is a story behind that, and you can read a longer version HERE.

But to keep things simple, I found out about a woman who did Akashic readings through a friend, and I felt drawn to contact her and see what they were like for myself.

I began to work with her regularly after I realized that the information she brought through was clear, concise, practical, and deeply affirming for my journey.

After a time, I gained a sense of curiosity and confidence in trying to open my own records. Turns out it worked, and I actively began working with my own Akashic Records, which led me to find the confidence to do Akashic sessions for others…. and here I am many years later and the rest is history. :)

Q: How do you make sense of the information in the records and how does the information come through?

A: Interpreting the records feels a bit like an art and a science. Art in the sense that you have to be able to make sense of how the information comes through, especially the pictures and metaphors I’m often given. There is a learning curve to understanding how spiritual information comes through and how to stay open to receiving it through the intuitive mind.

It’s a science in the sense that the more you work with the records, the more you begin to study the records, develop a relationship with the records, and observe HOW the information is coming through.

You begin to collect evidence on how the information presents itself, and as that evidence accumulates, it helps you make new connections and conclusions about the records.

Just as if you were learning to play piano, master the notes, and learn more complex pieces as you moved from beginner to intermediate to advanced— practice helps. Experience helps. Consistency helps and begins to create greater clarity and awareness of the nuances of the records.

Q: When you go into the records, who is giving you this information?

A: I love this question because it’s one I am still finding my own answer to since the collective beings that I work with change each time I go in! In short, there are keepers or guardians of the records from the energetic and celestial realms. I often have a sense of angel energy, ancestor energy, and light being energy when I go into the records.

My present understanding is that just like you might have a huge number of staff at the world’s largest library, with different roles, responsibilities, and oversight, so too do the records have keepers with diverse roles and responsibilities. So, to demystify things a bit you might think of it this way:

The overall records (think of this like a library) themselves have keepers who watch over the whole.

Each record (think of this like a book) that affects the collective also has keepers and watchers specific to it.

And then there are your individual records (your personal book), which are even more specific to you. I have found that when I go into an individual’s records, it’s quite common for their loved ones, guides, and ancestors to show up.

Q: What’s the difference between receiving information from the records as opposed to another source of divine information— like the angels?

A. The best way to answer this question is to offer you an analogy:

When I’m communicating with the angels and receiving guidance for others, it’s like having a coffee chat with a friend who tells you about the book they read last week. They can give you insights from the book, tell you about the story in the book, and even offer their opinion on the book and let you know whether or not you should read it too.

The angels are loving, warm, wise, and very good at helping bring through information for guidance and clarity.

The records on the other hand are like reading the book and experiencing it for yourself. The information comes through in a different way and it’s translated differently. Sometimes the records feel more neutral and like they present a wider scope of information to me. For example, I’ll often feel additional layers of information connected to the questions I asked, which lead me to delve deeper and access more information.

The records are excellent for seeing the soul of a situation and how it impacts the bigger picture.

Both sources of information are incredibly helpful. Both are loving. Both will always have our higher guidance in mind, but the way the information presents itself comes through differently.

I love working with the angels when I’m doing on the spot readings or need immediate guidance. I love working with the records when I’m looking to fully investigate, understand, and gain as much insight as I can for the bigger picture of whatever I’ve gone into the records to seek wisdom on.

And this brings me to my last couple of questions/points I’d like to share with you:

Q: How accurate is the information in these messages?

This is a very good question with a multi-layered response.

If something has already occurred and come to pass, the records are incredibly accurate for presenting information on the event, individual and situation, etc.

If something is just about to happen, the records will give you the most likely outcome if nothing changes. More often than not, I have found this to be spot-on, but occasionally things turn out differently because something changes.

We have free will as human beings, and because of that, the story is being written as we go, so there is a bigger sense of permeability to the future, especially the further out something is. I often tell people, “take this with a grain of salt,” when I can feel something is a likelihood but not an absolute certainty.

The last piece I will say in response to this question is that not all Akashic Records readers are the same. Different channelers of the records have different ways of working with the information.

So, in theory myself and somebody else could both give an individual a reading from their records and while there would definitely be some overlap in the information, there would likely be differences in how the information is presented and in what information presents.

Overall, when somebody is truly in integrity with themselves and bringing the information in from the records for the highest good, then I tend to feel the information is being presented as clearly and accurately as possible to the best of the ability of the individual on that day.

And that’s really the crux of working with the records: the information is meant to be used for the highest good and accessed with love and clarity of intention.

Ending this with the same question I always ask the records when I’m finishing a reading:

Q: Is there anything else that you’d like us to know?

A: Ultimately, the Akashic Records are an incredible way to access information for individuals and the collective. I find them utterly fascinating to work with, and I continue to grow and deepen in awe as I work with the records. I share this information with others because I want them to have an opportunity to experience the illumination and wisdom of the records that have been so helpful to me.

And while I do my best to present the information with as much integrity, coherence, and clarity as I can, I always tell people— trust your intuition. When you read a message I’ve brought through, it will always feel most helpful to you to contemplate it. Meditate on it. See if it resonates with your heart.

The last thing I’d love to share is: the Akashic Records are kept at the frequency of love and are accessed from a space of love.

And I find that profoundly beautiful, because as humans we want to take metaphysical concepts, like the Akashic Records, and make them so complex.

And yet, the fundamental energy of the records is the same thread woven through all that knits us together and makes our world beautiful and bright and connects us to each other and all that is—

The light of love.
